Blog of my Book: Sky Woman Lives in Me

November 18, 2019

Dear Family and Friends and all reading this blog,

Hello!  October 14th, 2019 was Indigenous Peoples’ Day.  The whole month of November, 2019 is National Native American Indian History/Heritage month! Yeah! Contrary to what our history books say, we really are here and never left!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween. In the 1960’s when I was a young girl living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin I remember dressing up as a Indian for my Halloween costume.   I had warpaint on my face and a hat with a feather in it!  I knew nothing about my Oneida self then.  The government almost totally colonized me! I am  like a little toddler just learning to walk and talk! In my case, I am a sixty six year old grandma just learning about my Oneida self.  The government’s assimilation experiment with my great grandmother, Sophia Huff-Powless, being forced to attend Carlisle Indian Industrial Boarding School, almost worked on me!

To honor our Native American Indigenous History/Heritage month I show a photo on the left of my Grandson, Clyde,  wearing a ribbon shirt. The color purple shows his Oneida ancestry.   The photo on the right is my other Grandson Luke.  Happy National Native American Indian History/Heritage month!

Two last things I want to mention are that I hope the government will release Leonard Peltier from prison. If there is anyone with a moral conscience in Washington D.C. who can free Leonard, please do so, ASAP!

As I had mentioned in previous blogs, the Carlisle Indian School Farmhouse is being sponsored by  Preservation Pennsylvania and the Nell Newman Foundation. Here is the webpage:  http://preservationpa.org/page.asp?id=70  to find out more information. Also you can go to   http://www.gofundme.com/carlisle-indian-school-farmhouse  Below is a photo of the farmhouse. Please consider donating and share widely to help this farmhouse become a place for all people, indigenous and non-indigenous, to meet and learn about the Carlisle Indian Industrial Boarding School’s history.  Thank you for reading my blog. Sincerely, Roberta Capasso, (Nickname: Bobbie), Proud Oneida and Author of the book: Sky Woman Lives in Me.  Please feel free to e-mail me directly for any comments or questions you have at   bobbiesblog4skywomanlivesinme@gmail.com  Please share if you wish.   To Facebook, I think you are an awesome social media for all us human beings who wish to just say “Hello”  or “Aho.”  Facebook makes it difficult to share true indigenous history to all in this world, however.    Please go to https://blogofmybook:skywomanlivesinme.wordpress.com to read all my blogs. Thank you!
